A Tradition Worth Preserving

The Longhunter Record Book honors hunters who choose the challenge of traditional weapons and the discipline of fair chase.

Since 1988, the record book has recognized achievements grounded in skill, patience, and respect for the traditions of the hunt.

As equipment and methods evolved, it became clear that traditional hunters and modern inline muzzleloader hunters often compete under very different conditions.

To preserve fairness while honoring the heritage of traditional hunting, the Longhunter Record Book now recognizes separate official divisions and expands to include additional traditional hunting disciplines.

The New Divisions

  • Traditional Muzzleloaders

  • Modern/Inline Muzzleloaders

  • Traditional Archery

  • Black Powder Cartridge

  • Single-Action Pistols

  • Lever-Action Rifles
